Guided by Youth: A Leadership Awakening Through Volunteer Service
When I began volunteering with local youth programs , I assumed leadership meant giving direction and maintaining authority at all times. However, my early experiences quickly challenged that belief as I interacted with young individuals who responded more warmly to patience and kindness than to firm instruction. Instead of demanding attention, I learned to earn it through sincerity and respect. Therefore, I saw leadership as an evolving relationship driven by trust rather than control. Moreover, as I continued spending time with these young minds, I noticed how my presence influenced their behavior and attitudes. While I focused on guiding them, they subtly guided me toward a softer and more honest approach. Consequently, I realized that leadership is developed through connection instead of command.
